Personal Goal
Hi welcome back to my blog, today we are setting goals and my main one for this term is to focus on the work needed to be done and hopefully make a change to the Hautapu River. To do this I must contribute ideas and work as a team with all my classmates.throughout the term we will have a lot of opportunities to go down to the River and find out what's polluting it.

I think that it is great to see that you and your classmates are making a difference! It is too easy to throw one's trash into the water and let it flow downstream to be someone else's problem.

Kia ora Josh, this is a fantastic project that you and your mates have chosen. Protecting our environment is the best thing we can do to make sure living in New Zealand in the future is safe and happy for all Kiwis.
As you know, the climate is changing through global warming and this is because of human activity. So to see a class of young people in Taihape take responsibility for cleaning up your river is awesome.
The best thing about recording what you are doing on a blog is that lots of people from outside Taihape can be aware of what you are doing and hopefully it will inspire other people to do things for the environment in their community as well.

I am also from the USA, and also from Colorado, but I live up in the mountains where rivers and streams are very important to me and my community. Here in the Western USA we don't have very much water, so we work very hard to be sure our rivers are clean and healthy.
This wasn't always so. Mining in the 1800s and 1900s polluted the rivers with heavy metals like zinc and nickel, turning the rivers orange. In the early 1980s a group of locals here decided to clean up one of our rivers, the Eagle, which had turned orange. They lobbied our government and had the river designated as a "Superfund" site, which helped our community raise millions of dollars to help clean the river. It's now very healthy, with big brown and rainbow trout living in the waters.
